Un uomo con un cappello e una maglietta scura ha lasciato uno zaino nell’atrio di un palazzo di Monaco, poi si è allontanato a piedi verso Beausoleil. Poco dopo, l’esplosione. Le vittime sono tre: un oligarca ucraino, Vadim Ermolaev, sua moglie e il figlio di tredici anni. Le condizioni dei genitori sono gravi, il ragazzo è meno grave.

Un testimone ha raccontato di aver visto una donna completamente insanguinata, con i piedi strappati via. È la prima volta che un atto di questo tipo si verifica nel Principato, e la domanda che tutti si pongono è una sola: chi ha piazzato quella borsa, e perché? La fuga del sospettato verso la Francia rende le indagini più complesse, ma la verità, come sempre, emergerà. O forse no. Perché nel mondo dei potenti, le verità scomode hanno l’abitudine di sparire più velocemente dei colpevoli.

Mentre gli inquirenti cercano di ricostruire l’attentato, il caldo record continua a mietere vittime in Italia e in Europa. Oggi venticinque città sono in allerta rossa, e l’Organizzazione mondiale della sanità ha già registrato oltre mille e trecento morti in eccesso in una settimana. Fabrizio Pregliasco, esperto di igiene e medicina preventiva, stima che tra giugno e luglio il caldo possa causare in Europa tra cinque e quindicimila decessi. Una strage silenziosa, che non fa notizia come un attentato, ma che uccide con la stessa efficacia. Il meteorologo Mattia Gussoni annuncia un breve break temporalesco, ma avverte che nel fine settimana l’anticiclone africano tornerà a far salire le temperature. Il cambiamento climatico, come un ospite indesiderato, si è installato nelle nostre vite e non ha intenzione di andarsene.

E poi c’è la farsa diplomatica tra Stati Uniti e Iran. Trump annuncia un incontro a Doha, affermando che l’Iran lo ha richiesto. Teheran smentisce. Il portavoce del ministero degli Esteri iraniano, Esmail Baghaei, chiarisce che la delegazione iraniana si recherà in Qatar solo per discutere dell’attuazione del memorandum d’intesa, e che nei prossimi giorni non sono previsti incontri negoziali con gli americani. Trump, imperterrito, rilancia: “L’incontro a Doha potrebbe essere importante, o forse no. Lo scopriremo”. La diplomazia, ai tempi di Trump, è diventata un reality show in cui la verità è solo un’opinione e le smentite sono solo dettagli.

E mentre i potenti giocano a scacchi con la vita degli altri, in Perù la magistratura ha aperto inchieste sul reclutamento di centinaia di cittadini nelle forze russe. Promesse di lavoro come cuochi o guardie di sicurezza, salari elevati e un percorso accelerato per la cittadinanza russa. Poi, una volta in Russia, il sequestro del telefono, la firma forzata del contratto di arruolamento e il fronte ucraino. Una truffa che sa di tratta di esseri umani, e che dimostra come la guerra, per chi la fa, sia solo un affare. E per chi la subisce, una condanna.

Il caffè di questo martedì è un composto di violenza, caldo e menzogne. L’attentato di Monaco è l’ennesimo monito che la violenza non ha confini, il caldo record è il segno che il pianeta sta gridando aiuto, e la diplomazia è diventata un gioco di specchi in cui nessuno dice la verità. Il mondo, come sempre, è un luogo complicato, dove il bene e il male si mescolano in un intreccio che spesso sembra senza soluzione. E mentre il termometro sale e gli attentati si moltiplicano, noi continuiamo a guardare, a sperare, a disperare.

The Monaco Backpack, the Crazy Thermometer, and the Doha Mystery: Tuesday’s Carousel

A man wearing a hat and a dark T-shirt left a backpack in the lobby of a building in Monaco, then walked away towards Beausoleil. Shortly after, the explosion. The victims are three: a Ukrainian oligarch, Vadim Ermolaev, his wife, and their thirteen-year-old son. The parents are in serious condition, the boy less severely affected. A witness recounted seeing a woman completely covered in blood, with her feet torn off. It is the first time an act of this type has occurred in the Principality, and the question everyone asks is singular: who planted that bag, and why? The suspect’s flight towards France makes investigations more complex, but the truth, as always, will emerge. Or perhaps not. Because in the world of the powerful, uncomfortable truths have the habit of disappearing faster than the guilty ones.

While investigators try to reconstruct the bombing attempt, record heat continues to claim victims in Italy and Europe. Today twenty-five cities are on red alert, and the World Health Organization has already registered over thirteen hundred excess deaths in a week. Fabrizio Pregliasco, expert in hygiene and preventive medicine, estimates that between June and July heat could cause between five and fifteen thousand deaths in Europe. A silent massacre, which does not make news like an attack, but kills with equal efficacy. Meteorologist Mattia Gussoni announces a brief thunderstorm break, but warns that over the weekend the African anticyclone will return to drive temperatures up again. Climate change, like an unwanted guest, has installed itself in our lives and has no intention of leaving.

And then there is the diplomatic farce between the United States and Iran. Trump announces a meeting in Doha, affirming that Iran requested it. Tehran denies it. Spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei, clarifies that the Iranian delegation will go to Qatar only to discuss implementation of the memorandum of understanding, and that no negotiating meetings with Americans are scheduled in coming days. Trump, undeterred, counters: “The meeting in Doha could be important, or maybe not. We will find out.” Diplomacy, in Trump’s times, has become a reality show where truth is merely an opinion and denials are just details.

And while the powerful play chess with other people’s lives, in Peru the judiciary has opened inquiries into the recruitment of hundreds of citizens into Russian forces. Promises of work as cooks or security guards, high salaries, and an accelerated path to Russian citizenship. Then, once in Russia, seizure of the telephone, forced signing of the enlistment contract, and the Ukrainian front. A scam resembling human trafficking, demonstrating how war, for those who wage it, is only a business. And for those who suffer it, a condemnation.

This Tuesday’s coffee is a blend of violence, heat, and lies. The Monaco attack is yet another warning that violence has no borders, the record heat is the sign that the planet is screaming for help, and diplomacy has become a game of mirrors where no one tells the truth. The world, as always, is a complicated place, where good and evil mix in an entanglement that often seems without solution. And while the thermometer rises and attacks multiply, we continue to watch, to hope, to despair.
